I have a problem with the fit of the O-Ring on my GATS. Basically, the O-Ring isn't perfectly round anymore and the rubber is not as pliable as it was when new. The instructions say I can use petroleum jelly, but I'm not sure how that will mix with AvGas.

Is it safe? Any reference that I can review to be sure of contamination issues (regardless of the fact that it's a small amount)

If you don't want to use petroleum jelly, call Aircraft Door Seals and get the fuel safe lube they use for the primer rebuild kit

Also available though Aircraft Spruce.

PS, I keep a primer rebuild kit in the glovebox of my Cherokee. A shot primer O-ring sticking the plunger almost got me stuck in Hays, KS, when I couldn't prime the engine for a cold start.
Dirt simple, but nothing you can do if you don't have the parts. So now I have one all the time.

Line the rim of the jar with duct tape - the good stuff. Even aluminum foil works.

The amount of Vaseline you're going to get in your gas tank is so small as to be insignificant. You'll use a thin film of the stuff... what, maybe .1cc? Less than that? Even if you do have some exposed to the fuel, AND even if it does dissolve -- slowly -- into said fuel, it's not going to be enough to even be detectable, let alone a problem.

Let's look at it another way. If it's a high wing aircraft, you'll get less Vaseline in your tank from your GATS jar than you will other contaminants from people sticking grubby fingers down the filler neck to check the fuel level.
