Garmin 696 had an "abnormal powerdown" due to a low battery during database loading, and the device seems to have bricked itself. Have called Garmin support, tried a card with the software update, tried all the loading sequences (softkeys 1+5+CLR, softkeys 1+5+RNG UP, holding joystick in, diagnostic mode), and I always get back to the a screen that shows Garmin, a "Databases" window, and the loading screen. RAM Test passed, battery works fine. Diagnostic mode shows the SD card inserted and "Waiting" on all the databases. And now Garmin is saying they don't offer full support for the 696 anymore, and they won't fix it, even if we send it in. Anyone run into something similar and fix it? Shame that they won't fix the problem, but I guess they have to make money on new devices somehow... Thanks in advance.
