Hello all:

Not sure if this fits in here but here I go anyway. I filed a VFR flight plan via DUAT from my home base of Bedford, MA (KBED) to Northhampton, MA. and return. Off I go get airborne and open my flight plan with Bridgeport, CT FSS. The FSS specialist has me on a round robin Bedford and back to Bedford, okay all wells.

Upon my return to KBED, there is a phone call from the pilot that flew the A/C yesterday. ( Oh yeah I forgot to mention the A/C belongs to a military aero club and policy has it to file a flight plan no matter how long the flight is) anyway he had just got a call from FSS asking where he was, because he was overdue and not closed out his flight plan.

Well the other guy flew a round robin the pervious night and did close it out, he has the cell phone date and time stamp to prove it. When I called to close my flight plan the FSS guy said there was no record of my flight plan being filed!

Has this happened to anyone else? I am worried that my flight plan is gonna pop up that I am missing and get some sort of saction.

Thanks
chuck

Does the policy say anything about actually opening the flight plan with FSS? ;)

Are you talking about Hanscom Aero Club?
Their policies are complete garbage...after reading their book for about 3 minutes i realized they run the place like a prison camp, it's rediculous. You should go to East Coast Aero Club on the other side of the airport instead. Great people, great rates, and great service. Plus, there are no dues, just a $100 dollar balance minimum and a checkout in whatever you are flying.

and i wouldn't really sweat the technique on that one, you did your job, but maybe just let your club know about it. You know?

Yes it sure does.

A couple of months ago I filed a VFR flight plan direct with FSS. Once airborne I open it. Later I tried to close it on the ground via LL but FSS has no knowledge of me ever having a flight plan or of opening on. I was on the ground 10 miles short of my home airport dropping off a pax. After I leave to head home I am turnign final and on the Unicom the people at the dest tell me that FSS is calling them wondering where I am at. I get on teh ground and find that FSS is calling around looking for me because I did not close my flight plan.

My only conclusion. Lockheed Martin srewed the pooch. The person I talked to could not find my flight plan so it expired and then a different FSS specialist had to deal with a person being over do.
