Anybody know anything about this model? My brother was asking me (he must have been dropped on his head at birth or something - he has no interest in flying a plane but wants to learn helicopters!:D )

Not long ago I read a blog by an R22 pilot that bought a kit. He was disappointed that it took him more time than advertised to build it. Ran over budget. And says he has to spend 3 hours maintenance for every flight hour. Wouldn't do it again if he had it to do over.

If you do buy a kit there's a forum for Rotorway builders and pilots where you can get a lot of advice.

Barry -

I haven't flown a Rotorway, so can only share what I've heard. The good news is that if you have the time and money you can build a pretty neat ship, including turbine powered if you want.

The major criticism that I've heard is that Rotorways don't have a lot of tail rotor authority -- this can be a major deal in a gusty crosswind.

I think I heard somewhere that Rotorway provides instruction because it might be difficult finding a CFI who is familiar with Rotorways and who is willing to teach in an experimental.

With a piston engine the capabilities are similar to an R22 (except for the tail rotor).

Personally, I prefer to let Robinson, Bell, etc. build the helicopters I fly :hairraise:
