All around the country there are small grass strips that house some tremendous flying groups that put on regular airshows. The Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome is one well known example. The Flying Circus Aerodrome in Bealton, VA is another great small-time grass strip that puts on an airshow and melodrama every Sunday from May through October. The aerial maneuvers aren't cutting edge death defying acts, but the aerodrome provides a wonderful family atmosphere and there are lots of little kids enjoying the day there. When the show is over, the audience is invited on to the field to see the planes up close and to ask the pilots questions. I had several kids sit in my Maule even though I was not an airshow performer. They also sell open cockpit biplane rides. It really is a gem of a place. Getting permission to fly in is tough, but the Aerodrome is well worth a Sunday drive!
