A most amazing eruption is occuring on comet 17P/Holmes which was at 17 mag. at best but on October 24 suddenly began to brighten like crazy: Now (afternoon UTC) it has already reached 3rd magnitude and is easily visible to the naked eye,

Cool - we've had clear skies around here lately, I'll have to get the scope or binoculars out. Unfortunately, that direction of view, for me, has the most light pollution.

and in the midst of drought, we finally have rain and clouds, so I can't see it - but you know? I'm ok with that. RAIN!!!!!!!!
