Thanks Again, to any and all of you that took the time to write a letter helping to set this hard won and highly significant waypoint for all USA pilots, especially for back country flying. This one is a very BIG step for us.

Therefore I am forwarding the following announcement on the subject:

Dear Karl and Everyone,

Karl and Arv have reached with these words of
encouragement about Tuweep:

As an aviation historian and a person who was taught to love back
country flying by Mark Hawkins I have good news for you all.

The original Grand Canyon Airport at Red Butte passed the Arizona State
listing for the register of historic places last Friday (November 17)
and is now headed for Washington, D.C. for a certain listing on the
National Register of Historic Places. I wrote the original nomination
(with cheers from Mark and Arv who once took me for the only overflight
I made of that site), and I'm very proud of this.

This is only the 5th listing for an aviation site in the State of
Arizona. It is the FIRST aviation listing which is non-military. I
hope it encourages others to begin honoring their favorite aviation
historic site too (in AZ and elsewhere).

The officers involved in state preservation of historic sites know very
little about identifying treasures like Red Butte and Tuweep, but with
time and education they will have to conceed that it ranks up there with
any lumber camp, mining town, and railroad nomination.

I congratulate all of you who are helping keep Mark Hawkins' and Arv
Schultz's goals alive by preserving Tuweep.

My heart and soul are with you.

Best regards, and Happy Thanksgiving,
Giacinta B. Koontz
