On June 23, Harvey Cleveland expertly piloted our Airdrome Aeroplanes Sopwith Tabloid replica on its first flight.
This is the newest of the Airdrome kits and is the first two seater WWI replica kit produced by Airdrome.
The Sopwith Tabloid is a pre-WWI plane that made Thomas Sopwith famous. It appeared in 1913 and set many speed and time to climb records. In 1914 it won the Schneider Trophy Race. When WWI came, it was among the first aircraft procurred by both the Royal Flying Corps and the Royal Naval Air Service. Our replica is painted to resemble a 1915 Sopwith SS3 variant flown by the Royal Naval Air Service during the Gallipoli Campaign.
The Airdrome Tabloid is constructed of Aluminum Tube and is powered by a Valley Engineering 2332cc VW producing 115hp and spinning a 90x66 Culver propeller.
Wingspan is 26'. It seats two, side by side. It is a fun plane to fly!
