Ok..so what are some nice FUN places to fly into around here in the midwest??? Im flying out of 1C5 (Clow)...and have been around this area quite a bit. Im thinking of flying to Lansing to kick off the new year for some nice clean fun and good food (i hope--never been).

Im not just talkin bout good restaurants...im talkin bout some cool towns. I dont mind having to hitch a ride to see some sites...and the smaller towns are always more fun!

Im thinking i'll be planning a trip to the Dells again this year...so anything similar to that would just about make my day!

First of all, what do you like to do? There are several good spots in Missouri that are aircraft friendly. Lake of the Ozarks has several resorts with their own airports. UUV has skydiving and the State Park is close for floating, splunking and fishing. PLK is next to Branson, and it has more than just music shows, and yes, Gastons. There is a post on here about air adventures that has alot of good locations.

How far are you willing to go? Madeline Is (326nm) can be fun in the summer. Mackinac Is (292 nm as the crow flies, 340 to avoid long overwater stretches) is even better.

Next year when we get 6Y9 reopened that will be a good place. PoA fly in in August.

Thanks for the responses guys...I think im gonna be doin a Cedar Point trip. Its 249NM each way...and i've read the FBO at Sandusky is quite friendly! Hey...it'll be my first time to Cedar Point!!!

After that...i'll have to see...I'm kinda gettin tired of just flyin around cornfields and the pattern. Hell, this isn't what I got my PPL and Instrument for!!!

On a warm spring day, take the significant other to Lakelawn (C59) for the champagne brunch on Sunday morning. They like it because they get to drink your champagne as well!

What are you flying? Own or rent?

Unfortunately still a renter...ugh...i hate shoveling my money away...its like renting an apartment. (bend over and grab your ankles)

Depends on where im flyin or the company...if its just me and the lady...then a DA-20 C1 (Eclipse) should do it...but if its a long trip or multiple people...then a good ole' 172SP.

I think its def. gonna be the Eclipse for the Cedar Point trip...my FBO puts them out at $108/wet and simply put...I enjoy flying it!

If you're looking for a quickie $100 burger run, Morris is great.

If you're looking for a mid-range weekend trip, tons of options. Head up to Iron Mountain if you're into skiing. Door County can be nice at this time of year, less people there than in the summer so you can probably find some good deals too. Go ice skating out on Green Bay. If you want to get rid of the winter blues, go to DLL and go to one of the indoor water parks (Ironically, the prices at Kalahari are cheaper in the winter than in the summer!) or Christmas Mountain for skiing, or the casinos - Lots to do in the Dells. Another place you could go for skiing is Telemark in Cable, WI though their runway is probably a mess this time of year so call ahead.

When warmer weather comes, you could go to the UP (Schoolcraft County, Escanaba, etc.), Door County or DLL again... Man, now you've got me wanting to fly somewhere.

While Morris is a great place, flying from Clow would barely get the oil warm.

If you head out to anywhere in SE MI let me know and I'll meet you there.

There's an OK place to eat at Jackson, There is the K-zoo Air Zoo right on the feild. Oscoda has a Yankee Air Museum. Traverse City is always nice, so is Mackanaw Island. Seabwing and Bad Ax in the thumb have bikes you can borrow to ride into town. Mio has a nice litte resturaunt right off the feild. Check out Mdot's avation calender, in the summer there is alwasy a pancake breakfast going on somewhere... and there is a few chilli lunches that go one in the fall and spring. The Great Lakes Avation Confrence is going on the weekend of the 20th in Lansing and I belive there is transportation aviable from the airport to the confrence center. If you go to Lansing on a weekday, call ahead and you may be able to get a tower tour. They're really nice. Humm... that's all I can think of right now.

Missa
