Hello world,
I'm looking for some advice on the best path forward to completing a private pilot license. Specifically, if after a long break if it would be better to complete the training in Canada where I started or start fresh in the USA.

For some background, I started my private pilot license training in Ontario, Canada back in mid 2016 worked to building the necessary flight time (I am at 65 hours, including 10 hours solo). I was all ready to take the flight test, but then life had other plans and I moved to Illinois interrupting completing the license. My last flight was in December 2018 :(.

I'm finally in a position to jump back into flying and am scratching my head on if I should try to complete the PPL in Canada during trips, or if I should find a local flight school in Chicago area.

Any advise would be appreciated.

You don’t need to start over for training under Part 61. Your instructional hours will count for 20 hours of instruction and your solo time will count as well. If you learn in the US, you will have the night privileges, in Canada it requires additional training. Plan on a US ground school or home study course.

§61.41 Flight training received from flight instructors not certificated by the FAA.
(a) A person may credit flight training toward the requirements of a pilot certificate or rating issued under this part, if that person received the training from:

(1) A flight instructor of an Armed Force in a program for training military pilots of either—

(i) The United States; or

(ii) A foreign contracting State to the Convention on International Civil Aviation.

(2) A flight instructor who is authorized to give such training by the licensing authority of a foreign contracting State to the Convention on International Civil Aviation, and the flight training is given outside the United States.

(b) A flight instructor described in paragraph (a) of this section is only authorized to give endorsements to show training given
.

Thanks for the response.
