F8F Bearcat down in Texas

Howard Pardue, who has been racing in Reno for years, and is very well known in the warbird community was killed today in his Bearcat. RIP and blue skies.

That is very sad. The name sounded familiar and I finally figured out why. He was one of the pilots involved in this other accident which we discussed.

I think this one will be considerably worse. More good weather, more flights, more crashes.

Elsewhere on the net, you can find a warbird enthusiast and seemingly knowledgable fellow who saw the accident and doesn't concur with that pilot's observations. Hopefully the NTSB will be able to separate the wheat from the chaff and publish an accurate account of the accident.

I've heard another report that he tried to do a roll on takeoff (something he had been known to do on occasion) and botched it. Really hope that wasn't true.
