"AP reports that the DOD has ordered the destruction of all the retied F-14 strike fighters at the Davis Monthan AFB "Boneyard" (where retired aircraft wind up, parked in the desert). This is necessary, it is argued, in order to prevent spare parts from falling into Iranian hands. A huge shredding machine has been put in place to completely destroy the Tomcats. Those interested in preserving vintage aircraft are appalled. We are literally scrapping our history on the chance that the Iranians might benefit from parts mined from the Boneyard to keep their obsolete air force alive. Didn't it occur to anyone that the black market in spare parts is a good avenue to infiltrate Iran? That if they give up on their older aircraft they might buy brand new much more dangerous planes from Russia? And even if the Iranians got the parts they need and we went to war with them their air force would be downed in a matter of hours. Where will the future fighter aces come from if they have nothing to shoot at? Think, people! "
