Exercizing sport pilot privileges as a PP?

OK, here's a simple question that I can't seem to find an easy answer to:

If I were to simply let my 3rd class medical lapse, without visiting an AME at all, could I simply exercise sport pilot privileges under my PP certificate and be legal? Assuming no medical issues.

That's what I did. The experimental I built fits under LSA so I just
didn't renew my medical.
