just a thought Could you replace the yoke on the ercoupe with a stick, just by mounting the stick to the shaft? Like on the tripacer http://trimmeraviation.com/yoke.html
It's just a modified yoke, really. It will still operate like a yoke, not a stick... as to whether it's legal, I guess whatever you can get by with on a field approval, I guess.
Yeah, thought it would be cool to have the stick grip, like a cirrus What would you do to get a field approval and what would it consist of
Just buy the Piper Clipper that came up on Barnstormers today... It has sticks instead of yolks from the factory. And 4 seats.
Having a stick grip on the yolk isn't the same as having a stick. Put a door knob on it like they do steering wheels in china
I don't know what the process is for a field approval, but your friendly neighborhood A&P might. Or an IA, I don't know what the protocol is. Haven't ever had to do it. In the end, though, you'll spend a ton of time and money for a one-off novelty that you'll very likely have to revert to stock to sell the plane. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
That’s not a stick, that’s a yoke with one side. Bid difference. What’s the goal here? Its not going to be like a cirrus and be tucked away giving you more room. You would push it left and right, like a stick, you’d be pushing up and down, just like a yoke, because it’s a yoke.
Mainly just a preference I like the feel of sticks rather than a yoke and I would be able to attach a military stick grip
What do you mean by feel? This is going to behave exactly like the yoke if you only use one hand. It’s not going to “feel” like a stick at all. The motion to bank will not be moving the “stick” to the left or right, it will be pushing it down, just like a yoke.
I wouldn't mess with it personally but to each his own. It won't feel like a stick. You don't get the movement of a stick.
Nah. Some of them look really nice painted up in a military paint scheme. I even saw one painted to look like a Zero... that was entertaining, but others are pretty cool.
Yeah, it's the equivalent of cutting off half of the yoke. You wouldn't want to put the one remaining horn of the yoke directly on the control column, that would be uncomfortable. Don't do it. Instead, change that "T-11" designation to something like "C-.05". Transports use yokes. Besides, if you're going to polish that aluminum, you're going to be busy for a while.
