A U.S. Airways flight that was diverted to the Portland International Jetport has landed safely.

U.S. Airways Flight 3715 took off from the Bangor International Airport Friday morning, bound for Philadelphia. It was diverted to Portland around 7:30 after a smoke detector went off in one of the bathrooms.

The plane circled the jetport to burn off some fuel, and made a safe landing around 8:45 a.m.

There were 53 people on board the plane.

Who knows. If it was anything like my last trip to Ireland, it was a transformer in the overhead compartment short circuiting and filling the mid cabin with the smell of smoke... best part being the lead FA melting down and acting distraught while trying to solve the problem.

Good times.

Cheers,

-Andrew

Circled 53 minutes for a potential fire?

Sigh.

Seemingly, of minor importance. However, the last time there was a "significant" occurrence re PWM -- one that had gone somewhat undetected -- the New York City skyline was forever changed, the world became a different place; and Portland Jetport became security super-tuned to unimaginable possibilities.
