One of my summer(20 years) customers at my former camera store turned 83 on March 26. Many of you will remember Bob Elliott, 1/2 of the famed Bob and Ray comedy team, father of actor, Chris Elliott; and whose Wally Ballou character was a frequent guest on the old Bob Newhart Show(the one based at an inn in Vermont).

Bob and Chris each have homes in nearby Cundy's Harbor, Maine; and are regular summer shoppers at Shaw's Supermarket. Much of our staff is young, and are quick to recognize Chris, though Bob is "before their time."

I bought a humorous birthday card, wrote a note to Bob, and collected 60+ signatures(and short sentiments). One of our "kids" penned, Your son is my favorite comedy actor." Into the mail it went so as to arrive on 24th or 25th.

On April 03 I received at my house the following note(which I know from past experience was done on Bob's 50+ year old Underwood typewriter.

"Dear Jerry:

Multi thanks to you and the Shaw's staff for the kind remembrance of my recent birthday!

I think I have enough signatures to be on the next ballot!

We look forward to getting back to Brunswick in a few weeks.

Happy Landings!"

(personally signed by Bob)

The second paragraph was purely the Bob Elliott wit. Really, a nice man.
