Reports said they were practicing using the radar to detect the drone. My guess is two sailors were goofing around and hit the ship. Don't ask me why I think that.

No, this was a preprogrammed target drone that malfunctioned. Not a piloted UAV.

Basically part of a combat systems equipment certification for the ship.

Drones are probably cheaper.....but you don't have to worry about a Lear hitting the ship.

My ship used those drones for certification in Hawaii. This was back in 1994 or '95.

19 years is quite the delay for 'outrage'.
