A special notice to pilots in the central Illinois area

==> ATTENTION PILOTS <==

FAA TO ESTABLISH TFR OVER PEORIA ON TUESDAY
AOPA is sending this message to advise pilots in and near Peoria,
Illinois, that the FAA is expected to issue a notam restricting
flight in the area during President Bush's planned visit on Tuesday,
January 30.

Based on information from the FAA, the president is scheduled to be
in the Peoria area sometime on Tuesday. AOPA anticipates that
the notam will establish a large temporary flight restriction (TFR)
limiting general aviation flight. Typically, these presidential
travel-related TFRs are 60 nautical miles in diameter (30-nm radius)
and contain one or more smaller general aviation no-fly zones. AOPA
will post the notam on AOPA Online
( http://www.aopa.org/whatsnew/notams.html ) as soon as possible after
it is issued. A graphical depiction will also be available.

Because TFR airspace frequently changes, AOPA strongly encourages
pilots to obtain a briefing and CHECK NOTAMS before every flight.
TFR violators will be intercepted and forced to land.

I wonder what POTUS is doing in p-oh-re-ah next week? Visiting the Caterpillar plant probably. Strange he is not doing a Chicago visit as there is some big Chicago money for the Republicans here.

Oh, C_ap. Just what I need.
The local Repubs think I'm with 'em because I gave $ to retain the local Congressman, Ray LaHood, who I like MUCH better than his Trial Lawyer opponent, and the local State Rep, who does the constituent work so very well, but was opposed by a Cook County backed guy. The State Rep defeated a......Democratic Trial Attorney for his spot.

The phone will be ringing off the hook.

Sigh. No Flying on the 30th.

Ohhhhhhh, Dr. Bruce.

Never, never give money to a politician. You're marked for life now, my friend! My brother used to work for Sen. Phil Graham. His one bit of advice was just that -- never donate unless you want to be inundated with solicitations for the rest of your natural life (and beyond, I suppose, in Chicago.)

Do as I say, not as I do. For reasons too complex to go into here, I made the same mistake in our recent gubernatorial campaign. I'm looking forward to years of annoying solicitations. To coin a phrase, sigh.

Hey Doc,
If we land the Lake in the river North of the TFR and keep it on the step (no flying) down to upper Peoria Lake, are we in violation? Just wonderin'.

The Coast Guard patrols and closes waterways, too. I've seen them chase boats off of the Chicago River.
