I got a short stint flying in the right seat of a DC3 today! He took off, headed out over the lake and I got out of the jump seat into the right seat, flew following the lake for the length of the lake and brought it back to pattern altitude at the field and the pilot took over and landed it while I operated the flaps, gear and cowl flaps. It was a HOOT! The controls were not nearly as heavy as I thought they would be, but I did nothing more radical than a standard rate turn. It was odd not seeing a cowling out front, looking through the windscreen was like I was just hanging out looking over a cliff.

A great day!

The one I flew is actually a C47 that was converted back to a DC3 post war so it is probably about 78 or 79 years old. The owner researched after he bought it and learned that it was involved in every parachute jump of the European theater during World War II.
