Hi all,

Working in Detroit for the next 2 months and would love to hear your suggestions for day trips/hamburger runs?
Ideally anything within 1-2 hours in a C172.

Thanks!

Not from the area but I think Dayton is under 150nm. You could go check out the USAF museum at Wright Patterson AFB

I'm just north of Detroit. My favorites in this area:

Put in bay
Mackinac island
Kalamazoo air zoo
Cleveland Burke lakefront (rock and roll hall of fame)

When I was living in the Detroit area my favorite day trips were

Mackinac Island
Traverse City
Kelleys Island (OH)
Put-in Bay (OH)

Some good hamburger runs:

Jackson (Airport Restaurant and Spirits)
Flushing (Sorrento's, Liberty Diner)
Coldwater (Crosswinds Cafe? Not sure of the name, but it's on field)
Kalamazoo (Bravo! among others)
Port Clinton (OH, Tin Goose)
Muskegon (Brownstone? - not sure of the name and not an up-to-date recommendation as I was only there once, 14 years ago)

More food places:
61D
RNP
05C

I've never been, but the AirZoo at Kalamazoo might be worth checking out. I've never wandered over there on a layover, but one of these days I'll do it.

MI is beautiful country

Port Huron- St Clair county airport (KPHN)
Enjoy the flying up there!

All of the above mentioned destinations are nice and it really depends on what you like to do. You can also fly to Chicago or Niagara Falls. Make sure that you ask for the scenic route over the falls at 3,500 ft. Both destinations are about 2 hours away (one way).

At KIAG they have a courtesy car that they give for 2 hours usually. You can easily drive to the falls. :)

Show us pictures from your flights.:)
