Database of cars make/model

I am looking for a downloadable database of all makes/models of all cars (preferrably ever, but I can deal with adding some stuff if its missing).

Any ideas?

How much information should it contain, in what format, and are you looking to obtain said database for free?

I know there are some commercial databases that are fairly exhaustive (I have a few auto repair shops as clients), but they are expensive and sound like more than you need.

Preferrably for free, or at least for cheap. All I really need is year/make/model and if I can, I suppose engine size would be nice too.

How far back (year?)... here's one option for you. Scroll down to Database Exports... I think this goes back to 1988.

There are also 4 pages of "auto/truck classifieds" sample software that you can browse through here... some of them may be free or have a database or flat file you can extract...

I'd like to go as far back as possible. I'm looking to see if I can snag that database from one of those two sites, thanks Troy.

I *CAN* do it by hand, just don't want to.
