I brought home MORE wine then I took!!!!! (But I really apreciate that bottle Linda!) I didn't make it to the party at Dianas and I never ate dinner at the camp site. I only drake two beers.... it was really bad taking a full cooler home. It took me 15 hrs on one day to get home. Long drive and now I'm really tired.

I vote you all bring Oshkosh vintage 2007 wine with you to Gaston's next year for us to enjoy!

Still trying to get home and am at Kirksville, MO right now. May have to stay the night at Kirksville again if the storms don't get out of my way. I love my new Garmin 496.

Did you buy it at OSH, Diana? If so, were they offering any discounts beyond the new price cuts that were just announced at Sportys and other retailers?

leah is in Rockford, I will be in Cedar Rapids later tonight. had a great time with everyone

Sorry I missed everyone. It was a fast in and out on friday afternoon..... sigh.

It's 11:25 pm in the east coast and Sue and I just got home. We flew 9 long hours, dodging weather the last 2. To top it off, I had to shoot the ILS to Rwy 16 at HPN almost to minimums and finished the flight with an "IFR", stop and go, intersection to intersection taxi to our spot. The fog was impressive, even by Westchester standards.

We had a great time at dinner last night with Diana, Kent, Tony, et. al.

Diana, are you near home yet? I saw you packing your tent this morning while we waited in the "conga line."

Missa, we made our last stop at your home base, IPT this evening.

Tomorrow, I'll post some more stuff including pics.

Wishing everybody made it home safely, I'm going "nighty night."

Not home yet. Back out to the FBO this morning at Kirksville and have been trying to figure out how to get home. Looks like I'll be here for awhile.

Leslie and Sheri got them at OSH too. Garmin was offering an additional $100 off, and XM was waiving the $75 setup fee for the Aviator package. I understand that some vendors may have been pricing them so that they were $2395 after tax, saving an additional $119. So the show could have saved you $294.

Yeah, Garmin won't let them discount below "official" prices, so the vendors are saying they'll eat the tax. Now whether they do, in fact, pay the tax is up to them. I know on my invoice from SNF the price of the unit is marked and no sales tax was charged. Of course, THAT's the receipt that goes to Garmin for rebate processing. There may quite easily be another internal one that allocates sales tax. But the bottom line to the buyer is the same either way.

Hi Missa
I made it home today. Genos name is now up on the memorial wall at Oshkosh. I took some pictures and will be making a DVD later this week. It was great to talk about Geno. Thanks for having dinner with us. Hope to see you next year at Oshkosh, I might even go to Sun N Fun again.

Regards Mike

I paid sales tax................:( But what a great piece of equipment. The Albatross has dueling 530s but neither has weather so we had my little 496 on the windscreen. It was kind of a hoot. :D

Ya didn't miss all of us, Bruce... Even though we only talked to ya for about three seconds it seemed like! :goofy:

I started up at 9:30 AM on Sunday, and got off the ground at 9:50. Controllers were doing a great job. So were most of the pilots, except for those on Citation N800PF who did nothing but ***** and moan about their IFR release taking so long. They'd put about 10 VFR's out in short order, putting planes on both sides of the runway rather than on the centerline and staggering departures, then they'd send 3 IFR's (heading 225, heading 270, heading 315) before another batch of VFR's.

Did I mention that the controllers did a great job?

It was nice to see the PoA folk at dinner on Saturday and lunch on... What day was that? I dunno.

I think this was my favorite Airventure so far. Second time camping with the plane for the whole week, and I've gotten into the groove a bit WRT knowing what to do, where and when. Still could have used a second week. I didn't make it to the seaplane base this year, and only spent part of a day down in the vintage section. Need to do more of that next year, there are some absolutely beautiful planes there.

Other highlights: Doing an interview in the cockpit of a B-25, meeting a bunch of the other aviation podcasters in person (and suckin' down more than a few margaritas with 'em), Watching the F-22 raptor, seeing a B-17 being escorted by 10 P-51's, the firefighting C130 doing a water drop, the C-17's Saturday flight demo, demo flights in the Evektor SportStar and CubCrafters' Sport Cub, and actually staying dry in the tent on Thursday night.

Oh yes, the bike thing is critical. in '03 I probably spent more time walking to and fro than I did doing and seeing stuff... and with the bike this year, I even took a little spin all the way around the airport... had a look at Basler's and generally enjoyed the countryside.
