Danica Patrick made history Saturday as midnight struck.

Patrick became the first woman to win a major auto race by stealing the IndyCar Series' event at the Twin Ring Motegi circuit in Japan.

I haven't been following. Was the common wisdom that it couldn't be done? I'll buy that driving is an athletic endeavour just like Patty Wagstaff or Sean D. Tucker flying.
