OK its an old thread.
50 yrs commercial, 50 yrs AP here. J3 to Douglas A26, to Citation...
Figure density altitude and add another 2,000 ft for worn engine, filed prop, rough paint, dirt, bugs, heavier than you think, turbulence, varying airspeed control, over enthusiasm. Learn from the mistakes of others, you wont live long enough to make em all yourself. Dont sneak weather, dont stretch fuel. Also, I swore in 1968 that I would never get in another Cherokee140, and I havent.
