Someone just asked me the following question off-line:
I cannot find where it states one way or the other that a CFI must have a special rating to teach in an LSA. Can you point me in the right direction?
The answer varies depending on the situation, but for the most common case (CFI-Airplane-SE teaching in an Airplane SEL category LSA), no special LSA rating is needed -- you're good to go. The particular regs that affect this are 61.429 (the most signficiant) and 61.5(c)(5) and 61.195(b). I would, however, strongly recommend a proper right-seat checkout and systems familiarization, just as with a regular airplane, as well as a thorough review of the relatively new 300-series and 400-series sections of Part 61 dealing with LSA pilots and CFI's.
