Any recommendation for a CFI for PPL training in the San Francisco Bay Area, preferrably in the South Bay or Peninsula? Thanks so much.

My faves may not be yours -- there is a lot of personal variation in learning style.
But without knowing anything about your style or constraints, look up Ray Woo at West Valley in Palo Alto, or Coby Sena at Aero Dynamic at Reid. Test them out with discovery flights.
Pick an airport you can get to easily. There are three that fit your constraints, not counting SJC. Maybe four if "South Bay" includes San Martin to you. Reid is significantly cheaper than Palo Alto, but the traffic down there is so bad that you'll have trouble flying on weekdays.

Pre-takeoff checklist
I have used a few of the CFI's from here when I travel out west and they've all been good. They have a bunch of planes but I've only flown in their Archer, and one of the SP's.
