Can I See Airline Cockpits Anymore?

Strange, management gave me the go ahead... But I won't post it because you said not to and can speak for my company....

I'm not telling you that you can't, it's your job you are jeopardizing.

Do whatever, just be prepared for the consequences that may happen. Most companies have employee manuals (or handbooks) that explicitly forbid reproducing company material.

I guess your right, with company permission I'd be jeopardizing my job

That said permission doesn't exist unless you have it in writing from a person who is authorized to give that permission.

(Not saying you don't have permission, but have proof)

E-Mail counts in court as "in writting" so I'm good there.

But.... the XJ guy knows my new management better then any average joe from the internet :)

Oooh that burns.. I'm 9E.. I'm not one of the "holier than thou" XJ fella's.. :)

Memphis on the 900.... He's my old instrument instructor from Hot Springs. Haven't talked to him in a long time. I think he may be a checkairmen IIRC.

Bob

Oh, he's an XJ guy. Nah, I dunno him.

No he's pinch a nickle :D:D:D:D

Maybe I have the plane wrong.... I haven't talked to him in forever so he may even be in Minnie.... But, I don't think so.... He's gonna be with 9E for his career... 23 when hired, been with them over 10 years already. Great guy, smart, and not a bad stick :goofy::lol:.

Figured it was worth a shot anyway :dunno:

Yeh, we don't or didn't have a 900 base in MEM. We may now, I haven't paid any attention lately. LOL..

*Edit* Well, we obviously do now, the old XJ base and the merger and all that, but I haven't paid attention to moving or anything with the fences, I'm staying on the 200. I'm senior on the 200, I'd be junior chump on the 900. :)

I hear ya!! I could hold a seat on the CRJ900 or if I moved to the Q400 in IAH I'd be 4th on the F/O senority list. I'm staying on the Saab since they gave me the go ahead for upgrade whenever the company realignment and vacancies are all settled down.

We were really lucky on the Q400 Fence. The XJ merger chairman was the one who came up with the staffing models. He set up the Q400 as it "should" be staffed.... But, we've never had staffing levels that high so our merger committee chairmen told us we will see the full 5 years before anyone can hold a CA seat on the Q400. I don't see that as a good thing... I'd rather hold a CA seat on the 700 or even 200 in Memphis, but if those who want to come to Houston can't because they can't hold a CA seat on the Q then that makes it that much harder for me to get to Memphis. It's driving distance from home for me :).

What's your hire date? You could always move as an FO, no fences there.

As the flight is boarding, actually if you ask at preboard, I've got a $5 bill says you make it onto the flight deck. You used to be able to snag a jumpseat every now and then on just a pilots cert, but not any more.

Not any more, but a friend flashed his ATP card boarding the Concorde years ago and rode across the Atlantic in the jump seat.

Great news!

All the planes (except the last one, I didn't have time) that I flew on gave me permission to see the flight deck!

The first plane, SFO to ORD, was a 757 with a WOMAN Captain. I was thrilled. Both United pilots (the First Officer a man), both middle aged.

The second plane, ORD to GRR, was a smaller plane but still cool to see the more "modern" glass panel cockpit. Two very young men were the pilot and co-pilot.

I told them all that I just got my cert, was going to my very first fly-in, etc. The young men said they missed the "fun" of GA and almost seemed like they wanted to attend 6Y9. The older woman gave me lectures about flying over Lake Michigan in a single. Interesting to see the different attitudes.

That's awesome, Kimberly. I've found that the pilots who fly the regionals and commuters (CRJs, etc.) really enjoy talking aviation, and showing you around. More than once I've been waiting at the gate reading aviation "stuff" - approach plates, charts, books, etc. - and the new crew would notice what I'm reading and start a conversation.

They can, the TSA just doesn't want a bunch of people trying to get on or off when you let them up there. The stipulation being boarding must stop until the person is up front and the FA able to gaurd the entry again, and only one person at a time. All part of the unparaphrased ASSOP program :)

You'll have to forgive me for going out so quickly the other day.... I couldn't help but want to spend time with the FA out around the city :D:D

Crossing my fingers she'll change her mind on her pilot (non) dating policy :D

Good gawd... Look at the size cables she is sitting on and how tight and firm they are.:hairraise::hairraise::rolleyes:

She is a flight attendant. Actually, come to think about it, all the flight attendants (as well as the pilots) were very helpful in escorting me to the cockpit. I learned that when we land the pilots typically have less workload and more time to spend so I waited for the landings.

The best way to ruin a good hobby is to turn it into a job. :)

I dunno.. I turned it into a job and still love flying. I still fly as much GA as I can. However, that's the exception to the rule, I think. Lots of guys I fly with "haven't flown GA since they got hired at XYZ.."

It's sad..
