Airspace Study 13-AGL-26NR
The FAA has received a request to
decommission the Burbun (BUU) Very High
Frequency Omni-Directional Range (VOR)
serving the Burlington Municipal Airport located
in Burlington, Wisconsin. If the study shows that
decommissioning the BUU VOR would not be
detrimental to the National Airspace System the
device will be removed without replacement.
The location of this system is:

Longitude: 088º 18’ 06.405” W

I wish they would decommission them all. :dunno:

Worthless, old technology. GPS is the only way to fly.

I disagree on decommissioning them all, but I do agree with decommissioning them as they fail in most cases. Same as NDBs.

Will they move the Awos to another freq?

No idea, but I would hope that they would move the WX info. I like having that station on the air for just that reason. Asking for that type of change to the airport and the need for a local reporting station in that location would probably be a good comment to send into the FAA.

Sooooo....Who made the request that the FAA received? I hope not a pilot.

David

Let's keep the Chinese out of at least one American thing, hopefully more.

David

There is a European (Galileo), Indian (IRNSS) and a Russian (GLONASS) global positioning constellation. Although Galileo and IRNSS are still in planning but GLONASS is operational. So SatNav is already not American anymore.

It could be the airport, particularly if it's right on the field. They may want to further expand/develop the airport or areas around it and it might be in the way.

I like BUU..Nice airport...did alot of my training there...Good restaurant in downtown Burlington too, Fred's burgers..within walking distance of the airport..haven't checked it out yet..

I do like their VOR for the wx though..they better keep that!

Thanks Scott. We use buu for a bunch of ir training. Guess not much longer. Passed the link along to my CFI. Thanks for sharing.

Perhaps it with have an impact and lower the cost of gas at KBUU? I mean, the 100LL there is already outrageously high... You should all avoid it...

It is on the field on the SE corner of intersecting runways. No point in taking it out for space reasons, not much else that can go in there. The ground is likely unsuitable for building on as it looks marshy. (Satellite view: http://here.com/42.6896764,-88.2988484,16,0,0,hybrid.day). Hate to lose it, but don't think it would be much of loss with the other high powered VORs in the area.
