Bronzing a C clamp

I have a 10" C clamp (Grand Tank Clamp) that I want to bronze as gift to a A&P friend. I want it to function as intended after bronzing. How would I ensure that?

Take it to someone who does electroplating. The plating will be thin enough to allow it to work. Some of the companies that do "bronzing" use a heavier coating that will prevent it from working.
