Broke Guy Needs GPS Upgrade Advice

Battery backup is fine on the G5's or GI275's but, you still need engine instruments. The 930 is great, but I just don't like having everything on one screen, if it craps out you've got nothing.
I posted a picture of my panel somewhere, I'm not sure where.
 
Don't do anything. Just fly VFR by pilotage. In 10 years, any electronics you buy today will be old-fashioned junk!
 
Unless you are going to fly IFR and stay current with it, I would simply use what you have. I did my panel cheap because I didn't have to pay for much labor. If I had to hire a shop to do it, I never would have done it.
Fix or get rid of the stuff that doesn't work. Fly it a bunch, then if down the road you just have to have a new panel, get out a huge stack of $.
I'd rather have another airplane than a $55k panel!
