i'll be in Ames for graduation. It does look like it's going to be a good airshow. I know a lot of folks from the CAF here are going.

YES, I will be working the Show Friday for sure and maybe Saturday and Sunday. From the email I received last week, I will be assigned to the Thunderbirds, I hope it stays that way.:fcross:

I'm sure the airshow will be great but Branson itself...well...suffice it to say that if you don't yet walk with a walker then you're probably too young to enjoy 85% of the attractions.

It also helps to have blue hair and those big black wrap around sunglasses.

    :)

I'm really bummed that I'm going to miss it. Right in my back yard and we're going to be out of town, well really out of the country. We don't get back until the 10th. Hope you guys can write a bunch on it so I can be there virtually :).

I'll be going, it's just too close to home to miss. Maybe this new annual event can help fill the hole left by the end of the Biplane Expo era...

The Missouri Pilots Association and United States Pilots Association are holding their annual convention over this weekend in Branson. Part of the registration includes VIP seating at the Saturday Air Show. It's no too late to register for the convention at www.uspilots.org.

    Dawn,
Did you get the email today on assignments and schedule? There is a Dawn listed, just wondering if that is you. I am working the flightline all day Friday, Saturday 12-4 and Sunday 8-12 and 4-6. My son is working the Pyrotechnic show on Saturday and Sunday.

I think Amy and I will go. Some other non-POAers from the Des Moines and Ames area will go as well. Not sure what to expect, but it involves flying, so that's all I need to know.

I hear that the new airport will be closed to GA for that weekend, so we'll have to land somewhere else and rent a car. Kind of weird, but whatever. If anyone can elaborate on that, I'd love to hear. In my typical form, I haven't looked into it because it's still more than 3 or 4 days away.

The NEW airport will be closed to GA traffic during the weekend. Your options are; M. Graham Clark/Taney Count (PLK), Harrison, AR (HRO) and Springfield-Branson (SGF) all have rental car companies at the airport.

    Hey Matt,

Actually the field isn't closed for the airshow, it just hasn't been officially opened yet. The airshow is commemorate the commissioning of the airport, which occurs on Monday, the day after the airshow. The airport is privately owned and ~$155 million was spent to build it. Be aware there is only one road in and out of the airport site. If it were me, I'd allow transient GA in and out for the show. But they have a huge static display lined up and the ramp is probably going to be crowded with large aircraft that have stars and matte finish paint schemes.

I'd like to go see the airshow, too. Most of the civilian performers were in Jacksonville, FL for the Henley benefit show a couple of weekends ago. Branson was going to be the biggest lineup of civilian airshow acts this year until the Jacksonville show opened with 34. If the IAR was in service in time I'd come but I don't see that happening right now.

The production company that put on the Jacksonville show is also doing the Branson show, so it should be a good one from a technical standpoint. I got invited work the Branson show, but it's just not possible for me this time.

If you make it, be sure to check out PW's Extra.

Go see the bathrooms at Shoji Tabuchi's (I think that's his name, the Japanese fiddler, he's good too.) theater. They are interesting and opulent. The air show is good, and you can probably rent a boat at table rock marina and watch it from the water if it's where it used to be. Look for the back road short cuts, they'll save you a bunch of time getting through town.

Not true, and if you have little kids, there's lots to do, has been for a long time, long before the strip was taken over by the big theaters.

Harrison AR is a long drive. I used to keep my plane there, it's one of those doglegged "can't get there from here" drives, at least used to be.

AFAIK, the new airport, BBG, is completely un-connnected with PLK, which is really in Point Lookout and named, in part, for M. Graham Clark. I've only landed at PLK once to drop off a Bonanza pilot who was picking up his plane after an unexpected engine replacement so I don't know much of the local history. College of the Ozarks did have a flight school operating there at the time.

You haven't been back in awhile have you? Four lanes almost all the way now, only about a 20 minute drive. And as for watching the airshow from the lake, not possible. The new airport is on the east side of Hwy 65 and about 8 miles south of PLK.

The College has nothing to do with Point Lookout (PLK) anymore. After loosing the Jet into the side of an Ozark Mountain west of Branson a few years ago, they shut down the flight school. Then a few years ago they leased it to Taney County and they hired an airport manager. They County just put up a new hangar and it should be open soon.

Been a long time...I stayed there a summer teaching sailing on Table Rock (the same summer they launched the Branson Belle) on my way from California to Key West. There was a super hot gal ran the office at Harrison, Kathy or Karen... little gal, fine fine fine, she still there? Ron the IA?

Is the old man, Graham Clark still around though? He was also a pilot and an interesting guy. He was old back then, just wondering if he was still alive.

One time when I flew into Graham Clark field in Branson, I found a bunch of old restored aircraft in a hangar there. I don't know if they are still there or not. Here are some pictures I took of a few of them. Bob

Nice pictures! Always fun "discovering" hidden treasure. That "Arctic Annie" Beech 18 (actually a C-45 cargo transport version) is still based in the general area, I think, based on it's registration location and last Flight Aware track:

I went thru some pictures I had and found a couple of more pictures I took on the same day. One plane they were working on, I think is a Beech Travel air, and the other you can see in behind is a Stagger wing Beech. Bob

They are still there, except for the Beech 18 that was sold last year. They belong to a local collector named Mark Trimble. Also there is "Da plane, da plane" from Fantasy Island.

Had a great day at the airshow. Met Dean, visited with Kim, met Patty Wagstaff, sat in the cockpit of a KC-135. Does it get any better than this? Well I guess they could have picked a better color t-shirt for volunteers. :frown2:

    I didn't realize Patty is so petite. For comparison - I'm 5'4".
