...And this was not that plane. The article doesn't identify it, but says it's registered to a company in Hinsdale, IL and was a 1975. The rental was a '62 or '63.

Both victims were 27 years old. :(

Ug I hate to hear that. But since spring is comming I expect we will hear more of such stories.
 
I came through O'Hairball last night and it was raining pretty hard for a while. THe flights were delayed, not so much for the weather but for mechanicals and miscatering. AA really needs to put the MD80s out to pasture.
 
The DDT wasn't that great when it was new. It was much like the DC9-30. When it was good, it was very very good, when it was bad it was horrid. We had a big party when the DC9's went away, had a wake when the brought in the MD80's.

Are there still check haul businesses? I thought after that law passed for checks to be handled entirely electronically all of those bizes would bout out of biz.
It doesn't happen as much but still quite a bit is done. There are a few contract carriers scattered around for the big banks and some service to smaller banks. Most of it is via companies like Airnet or light airline freight such as Delta DASH.

Many of the same contract carriers are also handling medical specimens or other materials to supplement what was lost after Check 21 went into effect.
 
From my local paper this morning
Police identified the dead men as David M. Kubsch, 26, of South Bend, and Matthew W. McClure, 26, of Manhattan, about 25 miles west of Lansing.

The twin-engine Beechcraft Baron was registered to SL Air International based in the Chicago suburb of Hinsdale. Owner Steve Leaven said the plane had taken off from the Lansing airport and was returning when it crashed. He declined to say whether the plane was coming back because of mechanical problems.

Leaven said the victims were not employees of SL Air International.
