Beal AFB TFR....

Just noticed a huge TFR for Beal AFB later this week... Curiosity getting the best of me, any one know what they got going on?

Last time I saw one this big the POTUS was in LA getting money from the 1%

There has been a semi-permanent TFR above Beale's Class C for years, for UAV operations. Check the current TFR for details, but it's usually no issue if you're on flight following with a discrete beacon code.

The Global Hawks that cruise around over Afghanistan and other places of interest live there, and use that space to climb/descend.

I call it a "PFR," for "permanent flight restriction."

I like to call it that as well. As I have yet to see a weather briefing without that PFR, there is nothing semipermanent about it.

What I don't understand is, why isn't it just restricted airspace like R-2515?
