Beach Skippers

I am not very knowledgable about Beech products, won't stop me from guessing:

1) over priced for what amounts to a PA-38?

2) major life limited part, ie, main wing?

3) potentially messy problem with current owner?

NOTE: I am only guessing at possible answers to Tom's original question and possess no factual knowledge of the current owner, their operations or practices.

Because the C150 is just as good a hamburger chaser, and you can get nice ones for $13K less?

Show me a 1980 C-150 with 3000+ airframe, and a 600 hour engine for any amount.

All the 13K C-150's I have seen have been junk. If you want a nice one, add another 10K-15K for that kind of time. As for the skipper, its a nice plane. I sat in one and it seemed to have more room than my 150. I have seen them priced in the mid 20's with low time engines, but about twice the airframe time.

The Skippers are ok. Just like any of the 2 place lightweight trainers, they're as my friend used to put it "Like flying in a bisquit tin" and pretty bouncy, but like I said, thats typical of the genre. The price is ok, if it had better radios the price would be good. Nice times on the plane. They're pretty low maint, the flight school connected to the RS I worked at had one on line, and it was just the normal stuff, 100hrs, oils brakes tires and annuals. I'd have to go over the particular plane to recommend it to someone, but I wouldn't steer someone away from the entire line.

No you can't. For $15-20k you get a ten or more year older plane with 3 or more times the TT and it needs $10k to become "Nice"

If I was in the market for an expensive two seater, I'd rather have this one:

1972 GRUMMAN AMERICAN AA1B, GPS IFR certified, 3060 TTAF, 1031 SMOH, avionics upgrades. $25,900. Contact Tiffany OH/(513) 582-1800 or Frank (513) 673-7300. frankb@drbiz.com
http://tappix.com/708269

This AA1B also looks interesting at 10.5K cheaper than the Beechcraft.

1972 GRUMMAN AA1B, 2782 TTAF, 667 SMOH, Lycoming O-235, extensive Nov/2004 annual, KX155, RST KR86, AT50A, clock intercom, solid aircraft. $19,500. Call Andy at MA/(978) 343-6536

This thin wing Yankee with the horsepower infusion will blow the doors off that Beechcraft.

1969 GRUMMAN YANKEE: 150 hp Lycoming with 1500 TT since new, airframe 1320 TT. Basic radio with xponder and GPS 90. Extended fuel tanks, split nose bowl, wheel pants and gear fairings. $29,000 or best offer. OK/(405) 373-2043.

There is also a 4 seat Traveler listed in TaP for $28K and another for $35.9K

Case-in-point: 1975 C-150M; 3059 TTAF; 1400 SMOH; $16,700; not anticipating major expenses in the near future(according to the supplier of its last annual)[who had done three for my previous plane].
