what an expensive 3 days! not only did I net lose 500 bucks, the Mirage is right next door to the Forum shops. when you lose, you need retail therapy right?

Michael and Nick, sorry I missed you. did you get in Friday night?

I won't ask what you did because I know what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. But I sure hope I don't see you on an episode of Cops LV ;)

I loved Vegas while I was there (this weekend was my first time, hopefully first of many). We made it back to Havasu Saturday night, and I made it back to Albuquerque Sunday night.

Vegas is pretty cool. It never goes to sleep. If you feel like heading to the tables at 3 AM, go for it, you won't be alone.

I'm lucky I don't live there though, I could be seriously addicted to craps.

You know Vegas was cool the first two or three times I was there. But after about ten trips it starts to wear on you. I have a relative there so we go quite a bit. I skip the casino lifestyle and stay in the outlying areas. There are some beautiful parks and country side outside of Vegas that is really nice. If you go back again rent a car and go visit the areas to the north and west of the city. There is also a incredible joshua tree forest out towards LA and then south into the desert. I love driving between LV and Palm Springs. I go all back roads and no expressways.

Agree with Scott. Vegas is cool the first few times there. I ended up there multiple times, usually for conventions. There is not much worse than conventions and Vegas. I don't care for the Strip. I'd much rather go to NY for shows and food.

But the Hoover Dam and some of the surrounding areas are pretty interesting. And if you get out of the Strip, there are some off-beat restaurants.

McCarren is one of my very least favorite commectial airports.

Elizabeth, IMHO, Craps is the best game to play out there. My father taught me that game when I was so young, I had to count the spots on the dice to know what I had. A Gambler/Author named John Patrick is The Authority on the game. If you really want to get good, read anything he's written on the subject. I go out there every year for two weeks and I play a lot. If you follow some the simple strategies and REALLY understand the game, I bet you'll be suprised at how often you can walk away with a moderate win. You really have to understand the game inside and out. Those dice are a little more complicated than they look!

+1 on everything you say. Hoover Dam is neat to visit (wish I could get inside the powerhouse). There are some good restaurants away from the strip. McCarren sucks.

My 1st impression of Vegas in the daylight - This city is really trashy. It needs the darkness of night to look good.

my problem is - I'm really lucky, I'll bounce up 400 in no time... but then keep going and lose it all. this happened 3 times this trip. had I walked away when I was up and then come back later with the same luck I'd be telling a different story. last year I did the same but was finally smart enough to quit when I was up 200 (overall) and left it at that.

Mark - agree 100%. it is pretty trashy. I think a lot of that is being in the desert though - there isn't enough greenery around to pretty it up. I wasn't impressed with ABQ either (no offense Nick). my relatives live in a really nice area and I still thought, ick. why all the brown dirt and tumbleweeds on the sides of the roads and elsewhere? the sunsets are pretty though. it reminded me of being in the dead of winter (without snow) and as we know, winter without snow isn't pretty.

Vegas once a year is enough. actually this time, being our third trip - we're starting to talk about making a family trip somewhere else this time next year.

No offense taken. Really nice areas in Albuquerque look exactly the same as the rest, except everything is more expensive and there are less illegal immigrants around.

Oh, and the crime rate is slightly lower :D I'm not very impressed with Albuquerque either.
