I just moved to Atlanta, GA (Buckhead). I'd love some tips about the local GA stuff, I've only passed through PDK a couple of times. Any recommended places to rent planes from? Any info about flying in Atlanta would be very welcome!

Lge flying club at ryy has 2 172s at 115 wet and a 182rg at 155 wet.
Cheapest around I've found.

If you're in Buckhead, KPDK is by far your closest airport, but as Dan mentioned above, the less expensive rentals are at airports in the 'burbs. KRYY and KLZU are probably the two best suburban airports around Atlanta, but you have lots of options.

Drop me a PM -- we can grab a beer at The Downwind (restaurant at PDK) sometime. Happy to intro you to some of my other airplane buddies.

PDK would definitely be the closest to you. Advanced aviation has a da20 and a 172 out there for a reasonable price http://www.advancedaviation.com/ I've rented from them before and always had a good experience. Most of the rental outfits at PDK are pretty pricy. One other that I'm aware of that has reasonable prices (but have heard some negative things about) is http://www.all2flyaviation.com/

I've flown with them a bit and recently joined a club out at LZU www.flylzu.com

Let us know how everything goes!

I can speak to the negative things at all2fly. The Owner is pretty rude and they are very our way you have no say approach to everything. I also think they moved to a 141 based school as well. I did my IFR training out at RYY with Superior Flight school. They are a tad cheaper than PDK, and the airport is also less busy and smaller so less taxi time. Which means you save money in the long run. If you are looking to buy an airplane and hanger it PDK you can get a shared hanger for about 400 a month. The cheapest option around is at 20GA where i keep mine 185 for a hanger and 50 fo a tie down.

Welcome to Atlanta. I'm based at PDK. I rented a single engine Cessna from Lanier Flight Center for nearly 4 years before I decided to buy my own plane. Great customer service and well maintained planes. Feel free to PM me with any questions.

RYY is probably the easiest to get in and out of, as it's a little less congested than PDK and Fulton County.

Are there any rentals at FTY (Fulton County)? Superior Flight had a branch there for a while, but left years ago. Fulton Aviation was there too, but they left a few years ago too.

I flew out of FTY with both of them. FTY is no busier than RYY. Airnav list RYY as slightly busier, but basically equal.

PDK will be closest to you. RYY and LZU cheaper, but a longer drive. Usually not too bad, but a PITA to drive to them in rush hour.

FTY easy to get into, especially if coming in from the north thru west. Basically not a big factor for Hartsfield traffic.

I am out of PDK and will take you for a spin

I recommend renting AND training at Superior at RYY as they have a ton of planes and very well priced

FTY is prett slow most of the time, but I don't know of any rentals there.
