Many students benefit from real world examples to answer many questions of why airplanes act a certain way or even why certain safety practices are done to name a few. Also for the CFI checkride, the examiner's questions are based off of scenarios rather than simple answers. I ran across this book recently published by ASA and it seems to fit the bill. Has anyone read it yet? Pros/Cons?

I stuck it on a list for books to be ordered at work. We'll see.

The FAA FITS site has some examplar curricula, etc for SBT. It's worth a look.

I've been impressed by the quality of ASA products (more specifically the Pilot Manual series) and so would expect the same from this book.

Thanks for drawing attention to it -- it's on order now!

I just found the FAA's generic private pilot syllabus - I'm pretty impressed by it.

Tristan's book recommendation is on my January schedule for purchasing - Dan, please post what your impression is once you receive it.

An update - I got my copy today and am working through it. It's pretty well written, at least from the standpoint of being readable and not inducing narcolepsy.
