On Sunday I got a chance to meet up with these two guys in Corsicana, TX. Four of us showed up in our 140s to meet them. It was a great experience and if you're going to Oshkosh, look them up. It's an amazing trip they're taking. As of now, they're staying with a friend of ours in Dallas, but should resume the trip very soon.

Simply awesome - thanks for sharing this.

    ---

Also, Jack, thanks for the low passes at Walt's memorial - there were tears in my eyes!

Thank you, that means a lot to me. I was hoping nobody was offended or thought we were just having fun. Walt always asked me to make several passes and I can tell you tears were in my eyes too. I sure miss him.

On Saturday I flew 385 miles, going from Taylor to Stephenville for lunch, then to Mesquite to change clothes, on to Walt's for the memorial, and back home. Around 4.5 hours of flying in my slow plane. I was exhausted and really didn't want to fly out to Corsicana, another 2.5 hours round-trip, to see the guys from Argentina. Then I started thinking how I would feel if I flew that far and didn't get a great reception and I was off! I'm so glad I did. I will remember it always.

I assure you - it was the very right thing to do for Walt, and Chellie appreciated it, too.

Looked at some of your pictures - the camera is strong with this one!

Thanks. I didn't have time to speak with her and she was surrounded with loving people. I'll reach out to her soon.

I just upgraded to a Canon 5D Mark iii camera and I'm loving it! I already had a very nice 70-200 F2.8 IS ii lens, so now I'm ready for anything!

I understand they will be parked in the Vintage Aircraft area, and will be in the Interview Circle at some point. If you want to follow along, their friend Jose is posting updates on our 120/140 Association Forum. Click Here for Thread

I saw that plane in San Marcos this past weekend. We thought he was likely headed to OSH but didn't have a chance to talk to him. That will be one awesome trip.

Yeah our friend Dean Howard intercepted them along the way from McAllen with help from Houston Center and then took them to lunch in San Marcos. They flew from there to Corsicana where the rest of us met up with them. To bad you didn't get to talk to them. Sam doesn't speak a lot of English, but Nico does and can interpret when needed... which was often with me!

Reminds me of Michael Gordillo's flight in 1998 from Madrid to Oshkosh in a Kitfox. Michael faced a number of challenges through the Middle East and, being denied permission to fly in Russia ended up under house arrest in Vietnam for a couple of weeks, delaying his arrival. Because of this the '98 AirVenture was not officially closed until Michael completed his journey.

One of the most heartwarming aspects of the story was that after Michael had crossed the Bearing Straight and reached Alaska he never paid for a single gallon of gas, a meal or a room for the rest of his trip and was accompanied along the way with fellow aviators as we had all been watching his progress through internet postings.

Kinda puts a lump in your throat and makes you realize how blessed we are to have this personal aviation thing here in America. In most other places in the world it just doesn't exist, at least not anything like it does here.

Well said and it's not just aviation. I'm an immigrant myself and proud to be an American citizen for 15 years now. I'm continually amazed to hear people complain about life here in the US, whether it is bitching about GA or something else. This is the greatest place on earth to live and if you don't realize that then maybe you need to have lived somewhere else not so nice for a while! ;)

Amazing story and flight! I'll add my hello at Oshkosh if I see that yellow plane, looks like it will stand out some. I say they get a few free beers.

Not sure. I know they went to the Cessna Factory yesterday, got a private tour, and were invited to spend the night at a Cessna employee's house! I'm very proud of the way these guys are being welcomed! I've been in aviation my entire life, and it warms my heart to see what I've always known to be true.... pilots are on a higher plane!
