It's a new plane, you are spending a ton of money on it, why not?

I know it's not a travel airplane, but people do fly them across the country occasionally. Oshkosh... Etc

While it is true, that I would rather see $30k+ spent on silly airplane parts versus a fishing boat, it still seems superfluous in an airplane who's mission is 'barnstorming' the countryside.

Maybe for that discriminating 'barnstormer' they will offer de-ice boots.

If I had one of those brand new biplanes, I'd rather spend the money on fuel... and the best leather jacket, helmet and goggles, and silk scarf that money can buy.
