I'm guessing performance and range problems. Those early jets were inefficient and drank a lot of fuel and some of the early jet planes weren't as fast as the more advanced piston planes.

First engines were good for a matter of a few hours' before replacement / overhaul.

because it did not out perform the prop planes of the time. The P-80 had the performance to beat the props. Dave
