I dropped a case of beer once, many years ago, trying to load it into the back of an old Nova. But it was something called "Mickey's Wide Mouth". Beer so terrible that most everyone at the time agreed dropping it was a good move.

My point being, this thread may be better in drift than on topic.

Nah, some of the drifts are fine, but the main subject will be giving boost to this thread for a couple years at least, off and on. We should start a pool as to what the outcome will be for Alec.

I won't be surprised by either outcome of a criminal trial. I doubt a single day of prison time though. Policemen have been sentenced to no time for wrongful killings.

I'll drift back a few decades to when a Dr. Pepper truck driver blew a stop sign, hit a school bus and it crashed into a water filled gravel pit. Several kids died. The driver was completely remorseful and self exiled himself into his mothers home for years. Dr.Pepper paid out greatly of course, driver was convicted but didn't spend a day in jail as I recall.
Point of the drift is AB needs to disappear!

That is an accurate observation from both poles. Fortunately the overwhelming majority of people live in the temperate zone around the middle. We just have to figure out how to pat the pole dwellers in the head, give them a cookie and ignore them like we used to before the Internet gave them a voice and the illusion of legitimacy.

True. Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, maybe even a nice merlot once in a while. Perhaps a good tawny port occasionally.

And maybe a cold Shiner Bock in Texas.

St. Nick could be really sloshed by the time he gets back to the North Pole and have trouble recalling whether it’s supposed to be the magnetic or the geographic pole.....

Well first, how is that any different from anyone else on the planet? And I didn't know we were screwing around with any indigenous people on the south pole, unless we're counting penguins. (Which actually could be a good thing, as my plan is to self-identify as an emperor penguin when I retire. Then I can move south and yell at people for screwing up my homeland.)

News is now funded by clicks.
We are driving the narrative by clicking on it.

If you don't click it, they don't make money and the story goes away but we can't help ourselves.
I don't think the news media is driving any agenda, They have their audience and are doing whatever it takes to get them to keep clicking.

    We are the problem.

I'd give you a couple of names to consider but then the thread drift would go wild, the political mud slinging would get way outta hand, and I would be put in time out if not hung out to dry. ;)

Back to the last question being asked ... no one is gonna go to jail over this killing. Hollywood elites just don't do that kind of thing. It's that old "above the law" rule that they have going for themselves. I'll admit that now and again they will eat one of their own but this time it appears there will be a bit of smoke with a few mirrors, some large funds changing hands, a memorial shrine built, more regulations passed, and everyone will be home shortly patting themselves on the back for successfully maneuvering through a difficult situation.

News tonight says (IIRC) that the armorer is suing the ammunition supplier, saying the delivery of the blank ammunition had live rounds mixed in.

Seems to me that the armorer should be able to visually tell the difference, but....

Actually, it was not random rounds mixed into dummy rounds but rather an entire box of live rounds that was marked dummy. Even still, a dummy round is visually distinct from a line or a blank. It has a hole drilled through where the powder goes. It contains no powder or primer.

There is, and will be, finger pointing of epic proportions going on for years.

As has been discussed, though, there are facts that are self evident. Two people for shot and one lost her life in a stupid accident that absolutely did not have to happen. There’s plenty of blame to go around, with a big chunk of it falling to the guy who was holding the gun.

    Bad decisions accumulate quickly.

The State of New Mexico Summary of Investigation is pretty damning. Rust is lucky that the fine is all they've received. But, then, I've been handling firearms for the past 60 years and have NO use for anyone who does not handle them in a safe and responsible manner. If they don't know any better, train them on the spot, but don't let them handle firearms without supervision. Close supervision. Firearms are a tool, but need to be handled in a safe and consistent manner. It is clear that Rust was violating their own written processes for the use of firearms. This, BTW, does not exonerate anyone who was involved beyond the fine issued to Rust Production Company. That is just a start.

I just ran across an interesting analysis by a lawyer on YouTube. It was posted last November, so he didn't have information about the lawsuit and state investigation posted above, but it appears to be a good explanation of the legal principles involved.

    No surprise.

But this quote makes no sense:
“The only thing the hammer could do when de-cocked and then directly struck on its own (without pulling the trigger) was detonate the primer.”

How do you set off just the primer and not the main charge?

Yeah... the FBI report may make sense, but the article certainly doesn't. It was obviously written by someone who not only understands nothing whatsoever about guns or ammunition, but also had poor reading comprehension. From the ABC News article:
It's like a game of telephone, the web article about the news story gets it wrong. Not surprising.

It’s not wrong, just strangely written. The old single action revolvers (which didn’t have a hammer block or inertial firing pin) would fire with the hammer down if the hammer was hit hard. They were known to fire if dropped and they hit hammer first, for example. That’s why 5 chambers only were typically loadrd, so the hammer could rest on an empty chamber.
My guess about the primer reference is that they tested with a primed case devoid of powder and bullet. That’s how I’d have done it. quieter and no need for a backstop that can stop the bullet.
