Airliner's aluminum anodized?

Were all airliners that had unpainted metal back in the 50's and 60's anodized or was it bare aluminum?

I'm no expert, but that's never stopped me before :)

Bare aluminum quickly develops a protective layer of oxidation just exposed to the environment. I would guess the surface of "bare" airliners are either bare with natural oxidation or perhaps clear-coated.

Anodizing is an electrochemical process used to increase the thickness of the natural oxide layer on the surface. I don't think that is ever used on aircraft skins.
