Ah cool. Makes sense. Always something to learn.

If you think about it just from a leverage perspective of having a 10" turbine disc transferring 1000hp to a 10' prop is going to require a gear reduction. IIRC there is about a 33% rpm loss between the gas generator and power sections with the compressor end turning 45,000rpm and the power turbine spinning around 30,000rpm, it's been a long time since I read all this so the numbers may be skewed, that's pretty much the gist though. 13.5:1 is what I get looking at a 2200rpm prop speed against 30krpm.
