Will the new Mode S transponders using ADS-B out continue to require a squawk code? I'm assuming they won't since your aircraft # is unique therefore ATC won't need you to squawk a transponder code. If that's the case what happens if a pilot needs to transmit a 7500, 7600 or 7700?

No operational difference with Mode S, you do the same stuff. It's just tat youbre transmitting a bit more info in the process and (at least some of the time) receiving some, too.

The ADS-B message format contains an emergency/priority field.

0 - No Emergency
1 - Genera Emergency
2 - Lifeguard/Medical Emergency
3 - Minimum Fuel
4 - No Communications
5 - Unlawful Interference
6 - Downed Aircraft
7 - Reserved

Has anyone experienced issues with performance of ADS-B at low altitudes?

Nader,

ADS-B uses ground stations to receive broadcasts from aircraft and to broadcast ADS-B related services of TISB, FISB, and ADSR to aircraft. ADS-B broadcasts are line of sight transmissions, so each ground station has its own service volume. If you are below or outside of the service volume of the ground station, your position broadcasts will not be received by it nor will you be able to receive services from the ground station. It is the same issue if you are too low to receive a VOR or are under radar coverage.
