A Way to Avoid Copyright Suits

Interesting. We're looking into this.

If y'all need some, give me a paypal account and I'll chip in for this...I work way too much with Intellectual Property issues to advocate against getting this cheap insurance.

I'm quoting a post by Ed Guthrie over on the red board:

Note that there is an error in the Wired article which I discovered in other research: Righthaven is actually partially owned by the same folks who own the Las Vegas newspaper. IOW, Righthaven isn't some unrelated 3rd party entity purchasing copyright rights from the Las Vegas newspaper, then researching blogs, etc., for infringements, and then suing those the research finds. No, this is a newspaper making money by suing infringers of the newspaper via a sister entity.

That said, I also discovered that Righthaven has discovered a revenue stream by contracting infringement suit services to other newspapers. Denver based MediaNews signed on for the service.

I don't have the legal background to parse out whether this means the "defense" against copyright infringement is more or less tight because of this news.
