I was working for a geophysical consulting company (1980-1984) that was hired by Texaco to prove that they did not in fact drill into the salt mine. Tens (if not hundreds ) of thousands of $$ later... inconclusive.
I did get to do some pretty interesting seismic measurements and use a lot of expolsives in the process though. (I'm 99% sure they did drill into the mine, though).
Needless ro say, we didn't tell the locals who we were working for at the time.
Must have been a pretty wild sight to behold at the time, though!
