I've started doing this on my edit boxes and wonder if you would consider it.
The issue is special characters are a pain to enter. On Windows you have to remember the Alt code or you find someplace ot copy/paste from.
So how about changing the text above the input text boxes to include the common characters one would want.
IE instead of Message: something like Message: ( ¶ § ° © † ‡ ¢ ® α β γ δ ε ± ≥ ≤ )
