A laptop, a webcam, and a Piper...

But shouldn't the prop be spinning faster and in one direction?

Hmm....you need to stay on that centerline. :)

Just kidding! Nice video! Thanks for sharing it!

You need to have Windows Media Player installed.

I've got the 10.00.00.3802 version open, and I still get funny little symbols.

Very nice. Right crosswind?

Yes. It was a left cross when I took off on my first circuit (not shown). The first landing on film was almost straight down the runway. Then it switched to the right and I was still in left csrosswind mode. That's why the second landing wasn't go great.

Odd...try dowloading it to your hard drive by going to

http://webpages.charter.net/edfred/flying/

right click and save the WMV file and then try to open it. I know some people have issues with streaming.
I tried that and it doesn't give me that option. I must have an issue with something; maybe streaming (whatever that might be).

Could you email it to me? I don't want to miss anything here. :)

OK finally got it, thanks for helping me Ed. :)

Nice video. Makes me want to go flying.

I was wondering why the prop moves both directions?

It's the wagonwheel effect like you see in old westerns.
I think my webcam samples at like 30 frames ber second, so when the prop is moving at an rpm that is just a little bit slower than a mulitple of 30fps in each additional frame that is captured the propeller is just a little bit behind where it was in the previous frame. So it appears to move backwards. When it's just a little bit faster the blade moves ahead. At one point the blade appears to stand still. It happens to be in the same position every time the camera captures an image.

...walk into a bar. Just kidding. But the previous three things did go into making this:

It was saturday and I was bored, what can I say.

Dude, that's one rough running engine, and when it died on the turn to downwind...

P.S. Where do you live with all that white sand on the ground?

Let's see who can come closest to the actual time the video was filmed. I say it was about 4:45-5:00 pm.

How'd I do?

Matt
