Today is the 100th anniversary of Orville Wright's crash that killed army observer Lt Thomas Selfridge -- the first aviation fatality.

We've come a long way in 100 years, but IMO we still have a ways to go ...

Nit pick - first passenger fatality, or perhaps first fatality during a sustained powered flight - there were some pilots lost in the early experiments with gliders.
