Hi all,

I had the pleasure and honor of participating in the 4th Around The World race a few weeks ago, and thought some of you might find interesting to either read about it or even consider participating next year.

It is between three simulation web sites.

Avsim.com , who I race for
Flightsim.com
Sim-outhouse.com

BTW - We (Avsim) not only won, we kicked their backsides but good. This was the 3rd race I participated in, (There have been 4 altogether), and I am one of the Moderators for the forum over at Avsim.

We use a custom program called Duenna to ensure no one cheats. It flags data continuously from FS9, and creates a text log and graphic to ensure compliance with rules. pilots are required to post their log and graphic to ensure the leg counts.

The race is 24/7 and takes about a week to complete and includes many people from all around the world. And yes it is serious competition. You must fly way up north and way down south, hit the continents, and you get bonus hours for mountain flying, certain hard airports, a berlin Airlift recreation, and of course speed.

This is not a jet race, as jets are banned, as are certain modded aircraft to make it fair for all.

Here are some links to this years race.

We also set up a seperate teamspeak server for private comms, and ran most flights on our main or backup multiplayer servers. Each leg also had a wingman so that is a lot of flying. One leg cannot start until baton is posted as Free in the teams Forum. Most of the time our handoffs were less than a minute for an entire week. Crashes count, as do penalties for flying over two hours per leg. I had the pleasure fo flying the fastest leg over the most miles in under two hours in the FSD Avanti covering 817+Miles in 1:56:52.

2.02.2006 02:12:31: Avsim / Sonar5 in 'Avanti Default Paint Scheme'PJON - PHSF817.5nm in 01:56:52 (419.7kts)

All in all, a fun week.

Regards,
Joe

Here are the General Stats for Team Avsim, for about half the race we also had an 8500 foot altitude restriction. I swear they did that because of my skill in the Avanti, but that is just a suspicion.
